Apple vs Samsung

The great debate of our modern times

One of the most common conversation starters today is if you have an Apple or a Samsung phone. Each user will argue that their phone is the best, when in reality both phones are similar massed produced items with only the company's back pocket in mind.

It is noticeable, within the two companies advertising techniques, that the two are trying to set themselves apart from each other.

APPLE goes for the more simplistic and exclusive designs, while Samsung's ads appear with lots of colour and movement. Both target the consumer directly, but there are differences in advert design.

This demonstrates the simplistic advertising design
that Apple are using.

The official image on the Apple website of the 5s model.
This design is once again simplistic and
has an elegant look to it, portraying a high-class visual.
Apple constantly portrays an upper-class feeling to the design of their products and their adverts.

This simple touch allows the consumer to feel a sense of upper-class when purchasing the items.

The minimal back ground with simple colouring allows the item, in this case the iPhone 5s, to stand out and become the centre of focus.

As Apple continues with this design they have adopted a new technique in their video formatted advertisements.
Apple are trying to convey that their iPhone takes more pictures than any other camera every day. This aims to entice the audience, particularly those who have an interest in photography, to buy their product.

SAMSUNG on the other hand are taking their advertising approach that captures the attention of every age group, with their bright colours.

This ad aims to sell the Samsung S4 series phone. The bright colours attract attention while the caption "life companion' reflects human needs. This aims to make the consumer feel as if the phone is a necessity.

Samsung takes a less "upper class" feel, and more of a familial, and comforting tone to their advert campaigns.

The dark, but soft ones within this ad, as well as the inclusion
of the hand portray a sense of familiarity.

Samsung also has their video advertising, which focus on the user, and not so much the phone. This video not only demonstrates the functions of the phone, but uses a celebrity to help in the advertising process.

Although both companies take varying approaches to their campaigns, it is evident the two have some similarities. That they both want to please their customers.
